Traditional cleaning products are very effective at their jobs, and are the choice of millions of home-owners around the world. However, there can be downsides to regularly using these potent chemicals in your home.
The strong fragrances and other chemicals can cause headaches for some people, and can pose a hazard when you have young children or toddlers in the house. They can also prove to be expensive! Luckily, making your own effective cleaning products is as easy as a trip to your pantry. Here are all the DIY cleaning product recipes you need to keep your home spotless and fresh.
#1: All-Purpose Cleaner
For this great smelling cleaner, you will need:
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1 cup water
- Lemon or orange rinds
- and fresh sprigs of rosemary or mint.
Combine all of the ingredients and add them to a spray bottle, including the herbs and citrus rinds. Let the mixture stand for at least a week to infuse before using it. This solution is effective for removing hard-water stains, cleaning counters, bathrooms and floors, sanitising dustbins, wiping away surface stains and more. Remember not to use acidic cleaners on granite!
#2: Freshening Kitchen Cleaner
This great and versatile recipe requires just 2 ingredients:
- 4 tbsp baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
- 1 litre of warm water (or one quart).
This baking soda solution can be used to clean appliances, counters, refrigerators and so much more. It is highly effective at removing tough stains, and also deodorises everything rapidly, leaving you with more time to play blackjack online in Canada. It can even be used to bring out the shine in stainless steel surfaces.
#3: Home-made Glass Cleaner
This easy glass cleaner works just as well as store-bought options. It contains:
- 2 cups of water
- ½ cup of white vinegar
- ¼ cup of 70% isopropyl alcohol
- and a few drops of your favourite essential oil.
Add all of the ingredients to a spray bottle, shake thoroughly, and it will be ready to use. Spray the solution onto a cloth before wiping down your mirrors and windows to avoid streaks!
#4: DIY Brass Cleaner
If your brass needs a good polish, try combining:
- ½ cup of table salt
- ½ cup of white vinegar or lemon juice.
For cleaning everyday items naturally, dampen their surfaces with the vinegar or lemon juice and then sprinkle on some salt. Lightly rub the salt across the surface of the item before thoroughly rinsing it with water and polishing with a soft, clean cloth.
#5: Heavy-Duty Cleaning Scrub
For intense cleaning requirements, make a scrub from:
- The juice of ½ a lemon
- and ½ cup of borax powder.
This scrub will work well for rust stains on porcelain and enamel, stains on bath-tubs and in showers, and even dirty tiles and grout. Instead of applying the mixture with a brush, you can sprinkle the borax onto half a lemon and scrub the surface directly. Rinse directly afterwards, and avoid using this method on marble and granite!
