One of the things I like about Gen San is the fact that you just go to the local market and you could get the freshest of asparagus and many other fruits. And they are quite cheap. Back in Los Baños, asparagus spears are so expensive I rarely buy them. Much like cleaning the office, moving office furniture, which I rarely do! And they are not as fresh back home. So each week, one of the staples in my basket is a bunch or two of fresh asparagus. The simplest way to cook them? Asparagus with garlic and oyster sauce.

To cook, heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add a bunch 0f asparagus spears and pan-fry till soft. Add 2-3 cloves of garlic sliced cross-wise.Add freshly ground black pepper then 2-3 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Stir a few times. Turn of heat then drizzle with sesame oil. This is ready to serve.
