Just today I came across a batch of Flammulina velutipes. Completely different mushroom, but I am going to devour them as soon as I can prepare a meal. Been picking and eating wild mushrooms for almost 20 years now. Proof positive that if you are careful and know what you are doing it is safe and healthy to enjoy wild mushrooms. That said I do believe that those mushrooms in the picture are safe to eat.....Still follow cation and safe eating practices that I stated before. And as a last result cats will eat anything if you cook it Bacon first LOL I'm just kidding.....Cats can eat things humans can not...and I would never risk my cat that way....If you want to know more about deadly mushrooms look up Aminitas on line and you can learn about the most deadly of the dealdy. You will see that the mushrooms in the picture do not resemble anything that might be deadly....But that in itself is not proof that they are safe. Do a spore print, Get the advise of local experts and once very sure they are safe try small amounts.....Just remember that even small amounts of some mushrooms can kill. If you are going to eat any wild mushrooms it is an absolute must that you learn what the deadliest mushrooms look like and what the characteristics of these mushrooms are. Once you have a feel for what can kill you then you can get a feel for what is probably safe to try. I would try these myself. They look very much like what they nick name coffee oyster mushrooms....cultivated by many armature and professional cultivators alike....Called so because they grow especially well on used coffee grounds and sawdust. Good luck and safe eating.....

Those are just a different strain of oyster mushroom. I'm not looking up the correct name. They're a variety which does not keep well and so you won't find them in stores. Most oyster mushrooms cultivated and sold to the public have a brownish cap compared to these. However, since they were in your yard you would not have had to worry about them keeping.

You can look all this stuff up quite easily.
