Thanks for reading my blog. I'm a corn breeder who also loves to eat and cook. Most of the recipes in this blog are dishes that I have cooked in my own kitchen. This blog is an off shoot way way back in 2007 when as PhD student, I had a major writer's block for writing my dissertation. So instead I turned into blogging my exploits in the kitchen. I've come long way then. getting my PhD and currently cooking in my third kitchen so far. My dog, named Pasta and I are based in Phitsanulok, Thailand.

I know. I was just too tempted to harvest them especially when I could smell them. I’m very familiar with the smell, as I had a research on antibiotics produced by oyster mushrooms.

the general rule for any kind of food is,” that if you doubt dont eat.”
Just to let you know, from what I know of mushrooms I dont think there are any DEADLY poison mushrooms that grow in that size and shape. There are dozens of diffrent varienties of oyster mushroom and I would be this is one of them. Certain clases of mushroom are deadly and I can not be 100% certain that these are safe, but if it was me Id be tempted to try them in very small quantities….If you get an upset stomach toss the rest but if after 24 hours you feel ok Try a little more. If you dont get sick they are good. These could be what I have seen called angelic or leafy oyster mushroom. Your always safer not to try them Me ….Depends on how hungry I am for mushrooms I guess. Id probably feed them to the cat first to see…..LOL but thats just me.

i ate some just like this ate alot of them and had a slightly upset stomach the next day could have been something else i will probably eat some more soon they were delicous but be careful i have a friend who is a mushroom expert comming over today i’ll let you kmow what he thinks and send some pics
Those are just a different strain of oyster mushroom. I’m not looking up the correct name. They’re a variety which does not keep well and so you won’t find them in stores. Most oyster mushrooms cultivated and sold to the public have a brownish cap compared to these. However, since they were in your yard you would not have had to worry about them keeping.
You can look all this stuff up quite easily.

Yep those are edible mushrooms, I can say so because I’m cultivating these varieties in mass production
Just today I came across a batch of Flammulina velutipes. Completely different mushroom, but I am going to devour them as soon as I can prepare a meal. Been picking and eating wild mushrooms for almost 20 years now. Proof positive that if you are careful and know what you are doing it is safe and healthy to enjoy wild mushrooms. That said I do believe that those mushrooms in the picture are safe to eat…..Still follow cation and safe eating practices that I stated before. And as a last result cats will eat anything if you cook it Bacon first LOL I’m just kidding…..Cats can eat things humans can not…and I would never risk my cat that way….If you want to know more about deadly mushrooms look up Aminitas on line and you can learn about the most deadly of the dealdy. You will see that the mushrooms in the picture do not resemble anything that might be deadly….But that in itself is not proof that they are safe. Do a spore print, Get the advise of local experts and once very sure they are safe try small amounts…..Just remember that even small amounts of some mushrooms can kill. If you are going to eat any wild mushrooms it is an absolute must that you learn what the deadliest mushrooms look like and what the characteristics of these mushrooms are. Once you have a feel for what can kill you then you can get a feel for what is probably safe to try. I would try these myself. They look very much like what they nick name coffee oyster mushrooms….cultivated by many armature and professional cultivators alike….Called so because they grow especially well on used coffee grounds and sawdust. Good luck and safe eating…..

As gorgeous as they are, I would have probably not picked them either. I really wish I knew more about mushrooms.

You need to find someone truly adventurous to try them out first.
We just let the mushrooms died out on the tree.
