You’ve got to blame it on Food Magazine, I went coco-crazy for a week. You see, I manage to buy their August issue this time. I rarely buy new issues of food and cooking magazines these days, as I can buy the back issues for a cheaper price a few months later. Anyway, I got into a buying binge lately stimulated by the sandwiches from 80 breakfasts that were featured in the July issue of Yummy magazine (but that’s another post altogether). Anyway, I bought the August issue of Food magazine, captivated by the picture of Bicol Express in the cover. Since I’m all out for spicy and hot, I thoroughly enjoyed this issue.
The main feature was the food from the Bicol region. When you say Bicol food, what comes to mind would coconuts and chilis. So for a week or two, I cooked ginataang gulay and of course Bicol Express. They also featured recipes from Glenda Baretto (of the Via Mare fame) and I cooked one of them – chicken binacol, which is again with coconut albeit, the buko stage this time. I still have a few dishes to cook from this issue – the fresh lumpia, lumpiang Binondo and the black paella.
So for the next 2-3 posts, the recipes are inspired from the August issue of Food magazine. Incidentally, Food Magazine has a sister publication called Foodie which I have yet to find in Los Baños.
