Delicious – masarap
Salty – maalat
Sweet – matamis
Sour – maasim
Lacks saltiness/sweetness/sourness – matabang

What’s inside a Filipino kitchen?

For the most part, we usually saute meats and vegetables with garlic, onion, tomatoes and soy sauce in that order.

Garlic – bawang
Onion – sibuyas
Tomatoes – kamatis
Soy sauce – toyo
Fish Sauce – patis
Black pepper – paminta

On rice
   
 Rice is the main source of carbohydrates and yes, we usually have rice during breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are many words pertaining to rice. Steamed rice? It’s kanin for us. If the steamed rice is still in the rice cooker, that is called sinaing. Want some rice porridge? Ask for lugaw. Buying some rice grains? You should ask for bigas. Want to see a rice plant? It’s called palay and is planted in a ricefield which we call palayan.
