From General Santos City, there are two routes you can take to get to Bukidnon – the Carmen Highway in Cotabato or via Buda (Bukidnon-Davao) hignway. Both are scenic routes, though the carmen highway offers a shorter trip. Whenever we travel through Buda Highway, lunch will most often be at Seagull Mountain Resort, just a few kilometers from the Bukidnon-Davao boundary. On my roadtrip across Mindanao last summer, we had a late lunch here. The last time I was there was late last year and this time, I was pleased to notice a new additon to their  restaurant and coffee shop – a steakhouse!

But what’s quite surprising was that it was their suman (rice cake) that captured my fancy. It was made of black and white glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaves. They served it topped with rice crispies, sesame seeds and muscovado sugar. The rice  crispies provided crunch to the very soft and slightly sweet rice cake whie the sesame seeds add bursts of flavor with every bite. Perfect with hot chocolate or brewed coffee!

Don’t miss their reasonably priced steaks and literally fresh garden salads. The vegetable garden is right out outside the steakhouse.

So if you ever find your way along Buda Highway, don’t miss this very delicious suman!
